Forest Pennant paving, copings & steps

Building an eco-home & outdoor space

Forest Pennant sandstone was used in the construction of an eco-home designed and built to emulate the international Passivhaus standard. The clients requested the local hard landscaping materials met the environmental attributes of the building and complemented its architecture. Landscape architect Reckless Orchard, was tasked with designing an out-door space that allowed the inside to flow out; with a distinction of social, play and self-sufficiency areas.

Truly Green Paving

Forest Pennant sandstone for selected for the mixed colour patio, pathways, steps, copings and dry stone walling. The winning factor in the specification of the sandstone was its high-ranking environmental credentials; PAS2050 certified and how the Pennant Sandstone is processed with energy generated by the onsite micro-hydro turbine.

Stand out sensory features

The Pennant sandstone brings cohesion to the scheme; between the stark lines of the building and natural form of the garden and woodland beyond. Stand out features include a sensory water feature created from copings stones running adjacent to a granite-inlaid rill atop random walling. The dimensions and natural tone of the copings, steps and paving stones complement the weathered sleepers which form the vegetable and flower beds.
